Special Edition-Laser cut Notebook

As a side project I decided to create a notebook using the laser cutter. I designed it in Illustrator using a rounded rectangle and then I added kerf cutting to the middle where I wanted it to bend. With the basic design done I decided I wanted to add a design so I took an old illustration of Baby Groot that I had done and put that on the front cover. When I finally cut it everything worked except the image cut out completely. So I ended up gluing it back in place. I also decided to print out a nebula I made and I hot glued it to the inside to give a background for the cut out parts. This was the final result.

Week 12-3D printing part 2

This week we had to print the object that we created in Tinkercad last week. Using the MakerBot software and the MakerBot Replicator+ we printed the items. After resizing my box a little to cut down the time the finished it was 2 3/4 in. tall and 3 1/8 in. wide. This is the printed result.

Week 11- 3D printing part one

For this week we had to build an object in Tinkercad that assembled. What I decided to create was a box. Since I didn't want it to be simple I made it a hexagon. Then I decided to recreate the solar system going around the box to add more design to it. I used various shape tools and the hole creater in Tinkercad to make it. This is what I came up with.

Week 10- Virtual Reality

For this week we had to work in the virtual reality space. Our assignment was to create a place within the city virtual reality space and add to the replica of our art building. For my addition to the city I was inspired by the legend of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I created a gardenscape around a glowing pool of water with firefly like lights all around. For my addition to the art building I was inspired by the Mystery Machine and decided to replicate that in Virtual Reality. These are the final results.

Week 9- Hot sauce Package

I decided to create a coffin shaped container for the hot sauce bottle as the final design. Using Illustrator, the laser cutter, and wood glue I crafted and assembled the box. I chose this design with the idea of creating vampire hot sauce. I ended up designing a latch to secure the the box closed. I ended up having to cut it 3 times before I got it to work. This was the end result.

Week 8- Hot Sauce package designs

This week we were assigned to create sketches for 3 different packages for hot sauce. These sketches will be used to create the cut document to send to the laser cutter. To make my sketches I used graphing paper to help with making the sketches to scale. My 3 ideas are a coffin, a sleeve box, and a cylinder that can unroll with a circle that closes it. These are the final sketches for the ideas.

Week 7- Cylinder

This week some of us were given the task of creating a 3 inch cylinder out of plywood using the laser cutter. To start with, we found the circumference of the smaller circle using C=πd. We used the result of this equation to determine the length of the kerf cutting we would uses to wrap around the circles to create a cylinder. After getting all off the measurements we used Illustrator to create the cutting document for the laser.  To create the kerf cutting, I used the shape builder tool to make a rectangle with the center cut out and a little extender piece. Then I copied and pasted that until it was around the length of the rectangle I had made that was the length of the circumference of the inner circles. After that I used the shape builder tool to make it all one shape. Then I used the shape builder tool again after putting the kerf cutting piece on top of the rectangle to cut it down to that exact length. This was the final result.
