Week 5- Crayon Box part 3

For this week we were tasked with creating three different graphic designs for our boxes and the crayon wrappers. It one had to be a different theme with it's own color scheme and logo/company name. For my three themes I chose space, pop punk, and Broadway. To create the designs I used Adobe illustrator. Within Illustrator I used the pen tool, the brush tool, the selection tools, the type tool, the image trace tool and the Gaussian blur effect.

For the Showtones crayon box I wanted to do a theater theme so I made the art on the box curtains being drawn and used a font the resembled marquee lights. For the crayon wrappers each color corresponded with the actual color of the crayon. For the names I used references to musicals to really tie the concept together.

For the Color Me Punk crayon box I wanted a basic black background but splatters of color since punk style incorporates wild hair colors and the music is just as wild. For the font I wanted the word punk to stand out and feel edgy so I made it a different color and used a brush like font. For the wrappers I made them all black but I used the ink spatter design on the paint brush to add the color of the actual crayon to the wrapper and to add an extra element of design. For the names I wanted to do something to correspond with the theme but i couldn't quite do it for all of them.

Lastly, For the Celestial crayon box I did a galaxy background using the Gaussian blur effect to give it a space feel. I also did it on the word Celestial to make it feel softer. I also brought in a design of mine as an ascent to the design. For the crayon wrappers I kept the same design and the box cover, using the ascent as a border on either side of the words.

Week 4- Crayon box part 2

For this week we had to create an innovative design that would serve as our final design moving forward. To accomplish this assignment we used illustrator to create the layout and glossy 11x17 paper and glue sticks to assemble it. for my design i built upon the diamond box from last week and added a smaller diamond shaped pedestal in the middle to separate the crayons and keep them in place. I also added a longer tab. This was the result.

Week 3- Crayon box part 1

This week we were tasked with creating crayon boxes that would hold 8 crayons. One box had to be a basic box and the other was a more innovative box. To begin this project we took measurements of the dimensions of one crayon. Then we laid them down on graphing paper and arranged them in different shapes and took measurements. then we took the designs to illustrator. In illustrator we used the rulers, grid, pen tool, shape tool, and shape builder tool to recreate the designs. After we accomplished that we printed it out on glossy 11x17 paper and assembled it using glue sticks.

My plain box I created fit 2 rows of 4 crayons and allowed you to see the tops of the crayons.

My second box was a diamond shape that allowed you to see all of the crayons when you opened it
